Safety should always be the #1 priority when at a parking lot or garage. The following safety tips will help insure your safety:

- Keep valuables out of site. This also applies while you are in your car.
- Drive with the car doors locked and all windows closed.
- If possible, park in an area that is well lit
- If possible, park near an exit or parking attendant station
- If you need to leave your keys with an attendant, leave only the car key.
- Walk in the center, where applicable, and do not display concern.
- When returning to your car, be aware that sometimes thieves hide inside vehicles.
- Be alert since crooks often strike those who are not paying attention. This applies to when you are inside your car, in addition to when you are outside.
- Lock the car door and start the car moving quickly.

If any case you are being followed while driving, honk the horn, and drive to the closest police station. Do not drive home. If you have a cell phone, call 911. These common sense tips should keep you safe in parking areas.
